Pathways to Housing PA is a non profit organization that provides housing to those who are homeless due to mental illness. FamilyAffaires.com Community Advocate, Roseann Vanella interviews Pathways to Housing PA’s, Executive Director, Christine Simiriglia.
Learn about Pathway’s model of “housing first” in order to reduce harm for people in need. Pathway’s provides housing and many other services to the persistent chronically homeless due to mental illness which may also in include some substance abuse. These are people that have failed out of other systems.
Pathway’s model considers that a person must first feel safe before they can concentrate on treatment and other needs. The first step in feeling safe includes a home and food. The individual receiving the benefits of Pathway’s must give 30% of their salary toward their housing costs. If they do not have a job, Pathway’s helps them to find one.
