DealingWithDan

FamilyAffaires.com Publisher Roseann Vanella sits down with Psychologist, Author, WHYY Radio Host of Voices in the Family & FamilyAffaires.com Expert Contributor, Dr. Dan Gottlieb to discuss the different meaning money has to different people and the various roles it plays in relationships.

It is believed that many marriages end in divorce because of financial issues especially in today’s times but as Dr. Gottlieb notes, financial issues often becomes the excuse when there were other underlying  issues that already existed in the marriage.  As Dr. Gottlieb noted, “money is never about money”.  “Money can be about trust or the illusion that if we had enough we would be secure”.

Then the question becomes, how much is enough? What kind of security does money give us? Is it internal security, external or both?  Does money really give us power? Or is it as Dr. Gottlieb so poignantly states, “Power is when you are comfortable in your powerlessness”?  Listen and watch to this thought provoking interview. We promise it will make you think and also perhaps help you to understand your issues with money and how it has effected your relationships.

As always, we welcome your comments below!  Dr. Gottlieb will respond to comments left.
