Video: Finding Self Compassion Through Betrayal

Self compassion can often times be very difficult to find especially after a betrayal.  When we think of betrayal we will think of being betrayed by another person, usually a lover, but many times we can betray ourselves. Our bodies can betray us or even our health can be the source of betrayal. Expert Contributor, Dr. Dan Gottlieb teaches us how to find compassion even when we are filled with rage and terror.  His message he shares is one to stop trying to better ourselves, stop striving to be thinner, richer or whatever it is that we feel will make us better.  Instead, we should stop fighting because after all as Dr. Gottlieb tells us “peace never comes after a victory, it comes after we stop fighting”.

Dr. Dan Gottlieb has been practicing psychology since 1969.Since 1985, Daniel Gottlieb has been hosting “Voices in the Family,” an award-winning mental health call-in radio show aired on WHYY 90.9 FM, Philadelphia’s local public radio station. He has also previously published a total of four books. His most recent, “The Wisdom of Sam: Observations on Life from an Uncommon Child,”. In it, Dan tells of some of the remarkable insights shared by his grandson Sam who is on the autism spectrum. All of his royalties are donated to children’s charities.
